A picturesque place
Drymen is one of those small mountain villages you'll find in the middle of nowhere. It belongs to the district of Stirling, but it's in the vicinity of Loch Lomand, almost closer to Glasgow than Stirling. It's a small, picturesque place with a large number of hotels, pubs and restaurants to service the hikers and climbers that pass through the area. The West Highlands Trail, a very popular route, starts here, leading to the Highlands by way of the Argyll Forest. Historically, Drymen was once a base for bandits like Rob Roy, a sort of Scottish Robin Hood. The Clachan pub, which claims to be the oldest in the country, is said to be the site of Rob Roy's meeting with the Duke of Argyll, who gave the outlaw a loan (you can see this in the movie, starring Liam Neeson).
