John Paul II, Karol Wojtyla was born on May 18, 1920 in Wadowice, a village in Poland near Krakow. His mother, Emilia Kaczorowska, wanted her son to be born and grow up near the presence of God. His birthplace is very close to the Basilica of Wadowice. After the death of his mother and his brother, Karol and his father went to Krakow. His home in Wadowice today, is a pilgrimage site and also functions as a museum about him and his family, housing photographs and all kinds of memories, it is definitely the heart of Wadowice giving it international fame.
