Dover Castle
Even from the ferry from Calais (France) to Dover (UK), over the white cliffs, you can see the castle of Dover, on a green hill. Known as the "Key to England" because of its role in defending the country during many attempts to conquer the island. Inside: lighthouses, Roman, Anglo-Saxon and Norman buildings, and the basis of operations used in the Second World War. The central tower is awesome, definitely a place to visit for all lovers of history and British culture, like myself.
