Dostojnícky Pavilon

El Dôstojnícky Pavilon (“Pabellón Oficial” en idioma eslovaco) se encuentra en el casco histórico de la ciudad de Komárno, al sur de Eslovaquia. Su construcción se llevó a cabo entre los años 1858 y 1863 siguiendo los cánones del estilo neogótico. Se trata de un edificio de dos pisos con una terraza al aire libre en el centro. Originalmente, el sitio era utilizado por los oficiales del Ejército Imperial, quienes vivían en el lugar junto con sus familias. En la parte central de la explanada se encuentra un pequeño puente que simboliza la hermandad que existe entre la ciudad de Komárno, en Eslovaquia y la de Komárom, en Hungría. En la actualidad, los antiguos edificios son utilizados como oficinas gubernamentales, aunque el piso inferior está abierto al público en general. Si bien no es considerado un atractivo turístico, el pabellón merece la pena ser visitado tanto por su riqueza arquitectónica como por su simbolismo. Además, su ubicación a apenas pasos tanto de la orilla del Danubio como de la plaza central de la ciudad hacen que no sea demasiado complicado añadirlo a la lista de sitios por ver en un paseo por la ciudad.

The Dôstojnícky Pavilon ("Official Pavilion" in Slovak language) is located in the historical center of the city of Komárno, in the south of Slovakia. Its construction was carried out between the years 1858 and 1863 following the canons of the neogothic style. It is a two story building with an outdoor terrace in the center. Originally, the site was used by officers of the Imperial Army, who lived there together with their families. In the central part of the esplanade is a small bridge that symbolizes the brotherhood that exists between the city of Komárno, in Slovakia and the one of Komárom, in Hungary. At present, the old buildings are used as government offices, although the lower floor is open to the general public. Although not considered a tourist attraction, the pavilion is worth being visited both for its architectural wealth and for its symbolism. Also, its location just steps from both the Danube bank and the central square of the city make it not too complicated to add it to the list of sites to see on a walk around the city.
