The Door of Trapani
By entering the original wall, which is the Elymian Punic Trapani Gate, you will get main access to the medieveal town. This is easiest to reach by cable car. The walled city was built in the fourth century BC by the Phoenicians, although the most well-preserved parts are the Roman and Norman. Three gates lie upon the wall: Trapani (so called because it is the access from the city of Trapani), the del Carmine and Spada. La Porta di Trapani is from the twelfth century and is protected by two bastions. After you enter the door, you will find yourself engulfed by cobblestone streets, among these are Corso Vittorio Emamuele (old Via Regia) and General Via Salerno.
