Calm Beach

There are two options to get to this beach: by boat or across all Ilha Grande from Vila do Abraão through a path. It's not as well-known as other beaches like Lopes Mendes (perhaps because of its inaccessibility), Dois Rios has clean water, it's quiet and there are less people in the water. Nearby you can visit the old prison, with two exhibits, one devoted to the prison and the other is objects made from recycled materials.

The best beach of Ilha Grande?

Hard to say, because it competes at close range with Lopes Mendes, most famous for surfing, but I find the most beautiful, thanks to each end of the beach leads to a river, hence the name of Two Rivers . These rivers are mangroves with abundant fish, water clarity is amazing and the beach is lined by trees and a few buildings, including one of the UERJ (State University of Rio de Janeiro), which does research on the flora here and Atlantic fauna. One of the main reasons why Ilha Grande has remained largely untouched its length is because for many years housed a high-security prison, which was closed in 1994 and demolished with explosives in large part, and his remains are covered by vegetation. In 2009 began a process of reconstruction of part of the criminal known as The Devil's Cauldron, where they were the most dangerous prisoners. I met an ex-fisherman who told me that when he left the jail had decided to stay and live in Ilha Grande, because I could escape the crime and see and live in Paradise that only he could glimpse through the bars.
