1 review of Ryujin Suspension Bridge

Difficult to get to but beautiful in November

This bridge (竜 神 大 吊桥 in Japanese) is in Hitashioota, in Ibaraki, and crosses the Ryuujin river (Dragon God) just above the swamp with the same name (imagination to power). It was built in 1994 using a grant of 30 million euros (!). It measures 375m (446m if you count the wires) and it was the longest pedestrian bridge across Japan until 2006 when a bridge called something like "Dream" was built measuring 390m. It is about 100m above the swamp. On the opposite side of the bridge there is also a small chime in a shrine where you can hold weddings. Admission costs 300 yen. According to official information the bridge can withhold around 1500 people at once, as the wires are equivalent to 1159 piano strings combined.
