Bowmore distillery

Of all the distilleries on Islay, Bowmore perhaps best represents the unique character of the whiskey from this part of Scotland: strongly flavored, with a very smoky character. The tour of the distillery is great, very detailed and interesting, and the store is a particular highlight. This was Islay's first distillery, founded in 1779, which also makes it one of the oldest in Scotland.
