gourmet coffee shop

Although when visiting New York, you don't expect to rush to a Spanish store, I think it's worth mentioning this gourmet coffee shop called "Despaña." The first thing you see when you enter is a deli showcasing a fantastic selection of sausages, hams, and cheeses. You can walk in with a bottle of wine from home, buy food from the deli, and eat at the tables with stools in the background. At the door of the store, and advertised on a blackboards is the Iberian ham, which had been banned in the US for years and began to imported again last November. They also sell a variety of caned, bottled, or boxed goods such as nougat, asparagus, oils, wine, and chocolates.

At the back of the store there is a section where you can escape the terrible American coffee and have a good black coffee or milk, besides being able to eat Spanish fast food: sandwiches, flautas, kebabs, salads, and soups. Everything can be eaten there or to go. Associated with the Cervantes Institute in New York, Despaña also holds gastronomic seminars focused on Spanish cooking that are taught outside the store.
