Lion of Lucerne
The lion is one of the most visited monuments in the city of Lucerne. It was carved in the middle of a huge vertical wall (rock) in the 19th century. And it is a tribute to the 700 Swiss mercenaries killed during the French Revolution. According to what the locals told us, this is the kind of place that is always full of tourists. Still, it is definitely worth a visit. It is nearby and you can see in a few minutes. The work even caught the eye of Mark Twain, who said something like "it was the most moving piece of rock in the world".
