1 review of Dan Lake

Fun excursion

Roundwood is a village in County Wicklow. It is on the way to the famous Glendalough Way and we decided to stop there one night to visit the latter quietly. We had no idea what to do after having toured the town from end to end (extending along the road), that we we would find this wonderful place, one of the most pleasant surprises of the trip. We walked by a road to do some exercise and enjoy the wonderful Irish green scenery.

We found some raspberries, tasted them and kept walking. It had not even been 10 minutes when suddenly, there was a stone bridge right in front of us that opened up a path to a lake. We were stunned. The water was perfectly still, reflecting the clouds and the sky, the margins filled with vegetation and pink spots occupying large chunks of its surface, and even floating flowers. It was as if we were in the month of April we were in August).

After crossing the bridge again and again, in both directions, we went through a hole in the stone wall at the head of it as coming from Roundwood. Steps that are made specifically for people, not for animals (a few steps and a narrow path only fit one leg at a time), and we entered the forest that surrounds the edge. A sign warned us that the land is marshy, but we went ahead and took the risk to leave the path. Indeed it was marshy, but it was shady, quiet, full of magnificent trees and tangled vegetation. We will never forget these peaceful couple of hours walking in an unsuspected corner, where one cannot help but stop and enjoy the scenery.
