1 review of Damascus Road to Bosra

well-preserved Syrian highway

In general, it's better to use the motorway that runs from north to south and east to west when you're in Syria. There are other roads that lead directly to the villages that we wanted to visit, but the road signs are in Arabic and the people we would meet along the way hardly spoke English. For example, to get from Damascus to Bosra there are two options. From experience, trying to get to a village on regional roads without speaking Arabic is impossible. Instead, the well-preserved Syrian highway, many of the road signs usually have roman characters and it's much easier to get there. Yes, the cars drive faster and Syrian driving isn't is very safe.

But it is a challenge! My recommendation: Despite the crazy driving it's worth hiring a car a few days to tour the country. The car is cheap, petrol even cheaper, you get to remote places faster and you'll have a great time! There are usually no problems in using the Spanish driving license to rent a car in Syria, but an international one is preferred.
