Cruz de Gorbea

El monte Gorbea es la cumbre más alta situada en los montes vascos, entre las provincias de Alava y Vizcaya. Tiene una altura de 1482mtros. y su cima está coronada desde 1889 por una cruz metálica, que la actual mide 17, 23mtros. Una gran colina verde con una pronunciada pendiente conforma la cumbre de este emblemático monte. Es uno de los cinco montes bocineros de Vizcaya. Es accesible por todas sus vertientes y está rodeado por un espléndido paraje natural, sus hayedos y robledales guardan construcciones prehistóricas. Su cruz se ve desde casi todos los rincones de la zona que se ha convertido en un símbolo de referencia. Junto a la cruz y la Virgen de Begoña, que mira a Vizcaya, hay un buzón donde se pueden dejar las tarjetas de los concursos de montaña. La primera cruz se coloca en 1901 que no dura un més, la segunda se coloca en 1903 que dura escasos tres años y en 1907 se comienzan las obras de la tercera y actual cruz y se cree que fué colocada en 1912 y el 23 de Junio de 1963 se complementa con la imagen de la Virgen de Begoña.

Salimos de Bilbao. Comenzamos el día con nuestra llegada al Parque Natural Gorbea, área de incalculable valor paisajístico, cultural y natural. Allí visitamos primero el bonito pueblo de Areatza o Villaro, declarado Conjunto Monumental con la tipología habitual de las pueblas medievales. Nos adentraremos luego al corazón del Parque, desde donde comenzaremos una ruta de 1 hora aproximadamente hasta divisar la famosa Cruz del Gorbea. Allí disfrutamos del bello entorno de las verdes campas de Arraba. Tras la caminata de retorno, profundizamos en la cultura vasca visitando un típico “baserri” o caserío transformado en un increíble museo de la historia del caserío vasco, pudiendo conocer de primera mano las costumbres, utensilios y herramientas de cada época. Después de abrir el apetito, gozamos de una típica comida tradicional en dicho lugar. Antes de poner rumbo a la capital bizkaina damos un paseo relajado por el valle de Arratia, conociendo alguno de sus diminutos y pintorescos pueblos y sus mágicos parajes naturales de hayas y arroyos. Con su cruz en la cumbre, situada a 1481 metros de altura. Con varias rutas de ascenso a cual más preciosa. Las vistas desde su cima son espectaculares.

Duro...duro...duro... para una novata en montaña como yo... vamos, que no es el típico paseo mañanero pero lo repetiría mil veces: día luminoso...azul...fantástico....paisajes inimaginables, orografía impresionante y la mejor compañía mis dos amores... hasta la Cruz!!! tres horas y media de dura travesía de subida... y casi tres de también difícil bajada... viendo desde las alturas, tanto Bizkaia como Araba...qué más se puede pedir??? un teleférico para la próxima vez???
