Calm waters and an interesting experience
The river Hampi that separates the ruins from a mountain was a full pension with amazing views of the temples in the distance. There are many ways to get across, and if you want to avoid paying the ferryman you can move downstream until you find some interesting craft, bamboo made exclusively to cross from shore. The waters are calm and it is an interesting experience if it has value.
