Creu de Palau Square

La plaza lleva ese nombre derivado de un antiguo palacio medieval que el Abad de Ripoll tenía en Olot. La cruz que existe actualmente es una reproducción de la antigua y monumental Cruz en la que fuera la entrada principal de la ciudad y fue realizada a partir de fragmentes que se encuentran en el Museo Parroquial. La original era una obra gótica de fines del siglo XIV o principios del XV, la que posiblemente fuera de alabastro y pinturas con filigranas y detalles finamente esculpidos. La cruz actual es una reconstrucción que el escultor Martí Casadevall recrea en 1936 basándose en unos cuantos trozos que se encontraron luego del terremoto de 1427 y 1428, posiblemente no estuviera exactamente en este lugar sino en otro próximo a las dependencias de la Abadía. En la punta superior se encuentra el símbolo del amor divino, en los extremos la Virgen María y San Juan, a los pies de Cristo se representa su resurrección y al dorso los evangelistas. The square is named derived from a medieval palace that the Abbot of Ripoll had in Olot. The cross that exists today is a reproduction of the ancient monumental cross on which was the main entrance to the city and was made from fragmentes found in the Parish Museum. The original was a work of the late Gothic XIV or early XV, which possibly out of alabaster and paintings with filigree and finely carved details. The cross now is a reconstruction that Martí Casadevall sculptor recreates in 1936 based on a few pieces that were found after the earthquake of 1427 and 1428, may not exactly in this place but in another next to the offices of the Abbey. At the tip top is the symbol of divine love, in the end the Virgin Mary and St. John, at the feet of Christ and his resurrection is depicted overleaf evangelists.
