Coquitlam Dam

1 review of Coquitlam Dam

See where 1/3 of Metro Vancouver's water comes from

Gain an invaluable understanding and new appreciation of how water reaches taps in the Metro Vancouver area by visiting Coquitlam Lake. It’s not a tourist destination, but it’s certainly worth a visit if you’re looking for something educational to do away from the city. It’s about an hour drive northeast of Downtown Vancouver, or, you can take public transit, which will take about two hours. It’s not open to the public as a means of keeping the water as clean as possible, so it is necessary to schedule a tour 'https://www.metrovancouver.org').

Tours are only available during the summer, they’re free, and they’re open to all, including non-Canadian citizens. Among other things the tour guide shares is that one-third of Metro Vancouver’s water is supplied from the Coquitlam Reservoir, and that the facility helps power BC Hydro. The tour involves a bus ride on bumpy roads and some walking on uneven surfaces, so wear comfortable shoes. Part of the tour also includes going into a forest environment with Douglas fir trees.
