Convent of Sant Joaquin and Sant Pascual

Uno de los puntos de interés dentro del conjunto histórico monumental de la ciudad de Cieza es el Convento de San Joaquín y San Pascual. Se encuentra situado en pleno centro, al final de la Calle del Paseo, en la denominada Plaza de la Esquina del Convento. Este convento construido entre los siglos XVII-XVIII por orden de los frailes franciscanos surgió de la rivalidad existente entre bandos en otros tiempos, pasando por diferentes etapas hasta nuestros días. Desde refugio para ancianos y desvalidos, pasando por cuartel de la guardía civil en el siglo XIX a colegio público y hospital durante la Guerra Civil, ha pasado por numerosas reformas para habilitar las dependencias con arreglo a las funciones del momento. En la actualidad alberga la Biblioteca Padre Salmerón ocupando parte de las estancias donde, a parte de la lectura, se organizan eventos y concursos de interés público para los habitantes de Cieza.

One of the points of interest within the historical monuments of the city of Cieza is the Convent of San Joaquín and San Pascual. It is located in downtown, at the end of Calle del Paseo, in the so-called Square Convent Corner. This convent built between the seventeenth-century by order of the Franciscan Friars of the rivalry arose between factions in the past, going through different stages until today. From shelter for elderly and helpless, through Civil Guard barracks in the nineteenth century public school and hospital during the Civil War, has gone through numerous reforms to enable the agencies under the functions of time. It now houses the Library Father Salmeron occupying part of the places where, besides reading, events and competitions are organized in the public interest for the inhabitants of Cieza.
