Previously in the Capuchin Convent
The Convent of Our Lady of the Assumption is in the Old Town, just behind the Cathedral, and has hosted since 1973 the "Archaeological Museum and Lapidar Infante D. Henrique". Opposite the building is a square with a statue dedicated to Alfonso III. It was built in the early sixteenth century as a convent of the Poor Clares Mothers. It's listed as a National Monument and is in Renaissance style, with Baroque dome and Manueline church. The convent chapel is now used as an auditorium. Museum hours are: October-May: Tuesday-Friday: 9.30-12.30 and 14.30-17.30. Saturday and Sunday: 10-12 and 14-16.
