Conchillas
Hidden in a rugged landscape dotted with forests, streams and lakes, and near the Rio de la Plata, Conchillas is unavoidable if you visit Carmel village or colony of Sacramento. Picturesque, Conchillas has preserved its traditions and its beautiful buildings. This former English factory installed late 19th century there for the construction of a port, preserved houses with thick stone walls, no foundations, just seated on the ground with lime and mud. The houses are all similar, plastered and painted yellow with tin roofs gabled red. Conchillas was originally inhabited by skilled workers, English and Greeks, Italians, and Bulgarians.
