1 review of Comeragh Mountains

Comaragh, 12 mountains them

Comeragh Mountains (Na Comaraigh in Irish) are a glacial mountain range in southeastern Ireland in County Waterford. If you visit you will not be disappointed, the twelve mountains that form the Comeragh Mountains are very popular especially for climbers and hikers. The highest peak is Fauscoum - 792 m (2,598 feet). The circus and the stunning Lake Coumshingaun are on the plain created by the Comeragh Mountains, near the town of Carrick-on-Suir in County Tipperary, and this is a perfect example of geometry. Its mossy walls are juicy for climbers and the beauty along the remote lake reminds you of swords, stories, fairies and other medieval legends.

It's certainly a hidden treasure that very few people know about, including not only travelers but indigenous people. If you enjoy walking then read this story. Distance traveled 12.5km, elevation gain 732m, approximate time 5:30 hours. Leaving the parking at Mahon waterfalls we climbed directly up the side of the mountain with no trees, a tough climb up to 668 meters of the Comeragh mountains. We avoided a complicated area through mud at the start of the waterfall and went left (west) towards to Coumfea. Once there we were already in the plain created by the Comeragh Mountains. The view down to the two lakes Coumalocha was worth it. We continued north to 744 meters and further north to a point 730 meters above the Sgilloge lakes. You stand on a vast plain surrounded by cliffs with lakes in almost all angles. This is a very curious place with panoramic views of the stunning region. Head over to the east across the plain to find a landmark on Coum Iarthar Lakes and then south to a small milestone at 792 meters on Fascoum. Actually I recommend it to everyone, not just for walkers or climbers but nature lovers as the scenery and the views are spectacular.
