La Laguna de La Cocha o el Lago Guamúez tiene un área total de 5.989 hectáreas ( se dice que es el 2do. lago más grande en Suramérica ubicado en la parte andina.). Con 90 metros de profundidad con la temperatura promedio entre 9 grados. Es un lugar muy hermoso, para disfrutar al cien por ciento de la naturaleza y respirar el aire puro sin el ruido y el estrés de las grandes ciudades.....si quieres paz, hermosura y tranquilidad. Realmente es hermoso........ir en lancha con una refrescante brisa rosandote la cara y un frió leve, con una hermosa vista, un descanso en un hotel a la altura adecuada para observar la hermosura de los paisajes de alrededor.

La Laguna de la Cocha es una laguna gigantesca, que limita con el Perú. Según la mitología indígena Quillacinga, en el fondo están las ruinas que dieron origen a este pueblo. Tiene una pequeña isla (La Corota) a donde se llega en lancha, allí existen unos arboles de gran peculiaridad que se respetan entre si en el paso de la luz solar, formando pequeñas siluetas laberínticas en cielo. Esta a la salida sur de la ciudad de Pasto vía a Putumayo. En tierra firme existen unos pequeños cafés donde se come la mejor cuajada en compañía de un "hervido", vivida típica de la región hecha con fruta y arguandiente, que eleva la temperatura de cuerpo dado que en el lugar hace bastante frío.

hace frio es bueno ir con gorros y guantes, es un buen plan y la visita a la isla es clave. Recomiendo hacer el recorrido dentro de la isla hay una linda vista del otro lado. Una buena trucha para almorzar completa el recorrido.
