Clackmannan
A town of about 3,500 inhabitants, it gives its name to the smallest county in Scotland, Clackmannanshire. Today it is a quiet little village, with one of the most historic parishes in the area. It is part of the Route of the Towers and its major attractions are in the center. The town's name indicates that its foundation was Celtic, Gaelic Clach Mhanainn, meaning "Stone of Mannan". Manan was a Celtic saint VII-VIII century. His monument is in the centre of town. History (merged with legend) tells that this stone was an alter at Masses and celebrations of St Mannan. Later another stone cross was raised.
