Church of the Holy Apostles

3 reviews of Church of the Holy Apostles

Beautiful church

The church of the Holy Apostles was built in XI century near the Acropolis of Athens. Today is based in the grounds of the ancient Agora. Damaged and rebuilt again and again through the centuries, it was restored to its old form in the 50s. You can admire beautiful frescoes, their colours sadly disappearing due to the damaging photo flashes and daylight. Some frescos come from the nearby church of St Spyridon. Four columns support the central dome, the altar and the floor are marble. Among the medieval monuments built in the Agora in the Middle Ages, the church is the only building still standing.
