ANADEL
An ancient building
Built in 1097, the Church of St. Nicholas was enlarged between 1297, and 1313, by the Augustinians, perhaps following the design of Giovanni Pisano. The octagonal belfry dates back to the second half of the thirteenth century. There are plenty of paintings inside, including a representation of the Virgin and Child by Francesco Traini (fourteenth century) and St Nicolas saving Pisa from the plague (fifteenth century). There are also noteworthy carvings by Giovanni and Nino Pisano.
