A lesson in religious tolerance
The church of Saint Joseph is a lesson in Thailand's religious tolerance - very commendable at a time when religious freedom is not so common in many other Asian countries. This church has stood for more than three hundred years. It was destroyed in the war against Burma, but the King of Thailand financed its reconstruction. When I visited, I was amazed by the number of people attending mass. It was a Tuesday, not a Sunday, so it was all the more striking - and there were a lot of young people, which I never see at home in Spain. 90% of those attending the ceremony were younger than me.
