Church of Santa Maria Nova
The Church of Santa Maria Nova is located in the town of Noia (A Coruña). It was built in the XIV century on the remains of an earlier church of the XII century. It has a single nave. With a portico on the facade, it depicts the Adoration of the Magi, shows the Virgin and Child in her lap, the three Magi, Archbishop Berenguel and San Jose. The portico has four pillars, a vault and a rosette. On the north wall are niches framed by arches. It has a small belfry. Inside you can see altarpieces, one of the XVIII century, with sculptural panels and images. It is surrounded by a cemetery which houses a lot of tombstones, dating from the Middle Ages.
These slabs, which were saved from the elements (many are still there), have some standing within the Church, and seem to represent people of different trades. There is some mystery around them and some interesting legends. For example, some believe that they are related to the Knights Templar.
