A unique Baroque example
In Galicia, the church of San Telmo is considered a unique example of Portuguese Baroque style. It is located in the vicinity of the Cathedral in the old town of Tui and was originally built over the house where the Saint died. The Portuguese master Frai Mateo de Mosteiro started to build the present church under Bishop Rodriguez Castanon's orders, he broke ground in June 1769. The initial project planned two lateral towers that were, due to lack of money, reduced to a smaller core.
