The name comes from the fact that when the church was built in 1064, the River Po ran around the square in front. But the present church has undergone numerous reforms, the most notable by the mannerist Francesco Dattaro. The facade has elegant marble towers, and the bell tower was built in 1840. The interior has a Latin cross with three naves. The church is located in the centre of the old quarrying district.
