Church of San Gavino

Located in the town of Porto Torres, the church of San Gavino (so called because it houses the remains of the Saint) was built in a pre Romanesque style. It was formerly a cathedral, although it is now only a parish church. The church is located between two courtyards. On the south side is the main entrance, a 15th century Catalan Gothic style door. This is crowned by an arch supported by two columns of angels with coats of arms. The church has two apses, one on each short side of the exterior. The exterior is decorated in an ornate style. The roof is covered with lead plates. It is simply beautiful!
