Modest but harmonious
Salento's church, originally built in 1850, is a unique building because it is made entirely of ceroxylon wood from the columns to the roofs. This wood is rarely used in construction. In the early twentieth century, it´s location was moved and the temple was built with two towers. After several earthquakes in the 20s, it had to be rebuilt but with only one tower. Its style is a blend of Spanish colonial and Colombian naïve. Its interior is modest but the religious people of Salento are always crowded inside. The day I visited the priest spoke of the dangers of Facebook and the Internet for young people.
