The Most Beautiful Manueline Portico
Alvor is just 7 kilometers away from the town of Portimao, which is a wonderfully picturesque town. We went up there, mainly so that we could see the Manueline Portico of the cathedral and it was definitely worth it. It's in a sixteenth century building that was renovated in the eighteenth century. The columns supporting the three ships are part of the original structure as well as the fountains and the triumphal arch over the altar. The carved altar is from the eighteenth century. Note also tile panels eighteenth century, representing the washing of feet and the Last Supper.
