La Cartuja de Jerez, levantada por iniciativa del caballero Álvaro Obertos de Valeto en la segunda mitad del siglo XV es, posiblemente, el edificio religioso de mayor valor artístico de la provincia de Cádiz. Son de gran interés su pórtico grecorromano debido a Andrés de Ribera, así como la capilla de Santa María de la Defensión, titular del convento, el pequeño claustro gótico, el patio de los Arrayanes y los cuadros de Roelas que decoran el altar mayor de la iglesia.
La Cartuja de Jerez, built by the knight of Álvaro Obertos Valeto in the second half of the fifteenth century is possibly the largest religious building artistic value of the province of Cadiz. They are of great interest because of its Greco-Roman portico Andres de Ribera, and the chapel of St. Mary of the Defensión, head of the convent, the small Gothic cloister, the Court of the Myrtles and Roelas boxes decorating the altar of the church.
