Apopular pilgrimage begins from this place
The first thing I found, nothing else made me detour toward Bemposta from the road, was a square garden and this chapel. Apparently they don't know when it was built, but a stone on the facade indicates the year 1580. However, it's been remodeled on several occasions throughout its life, most recently in 2003 thanks to Father Antonio MB Pires, according to the plaque on the outside. It is a small, concrete chapel with a nave and rectangular floor. There's a portico before the entrance, and on the top there's a small belfry. In front of the portico is a stone cross from the 15th century called "cross galho de Carvalho".
Too bad I could not go inside, because it seems to be the most interesting part. They have found and recovered some Renaissance paintings that represent an ordeal, and had been covered with lime in the 18th century. On August 1 a popular pilgrimage begins from this place.
