Capilla de San Juan de Dios

2 reviews of Capilla de San Juan de Dios

In the middle of the bustle

Located in the old town, in the middle of many shops and a lively area, this chapel used to be part of the Royal Mercy Hospital named after St. John of God. The hospital was founded by the Catholic Monarchs in the 15th century, although the chapel came later in the 16th century. It's very simple and in its interior, there is a Mudejar coffered ceiling.

The area where the Chapel of San Juan...

The area where the Chapel of San Juan de Dios is located, is one of the busiest areas of Marbella, and we could say it is the "knot" of the old town. If you go down the small alley leading from the square of Charity where the Church of the Incarnation is, you come across this little chapel, which inbetween this hard, souvenir shops and many other stores "of the usual village "she puts a religious note with many years old. The chapel is very simple, with a beautiful wooden door with carved shield left town, and a religious motive to the derecha.Este reason, at the base of the cross, has a "Granada"., Detail that makes us see that this area was also once ruled by the kingdom of Reyes Catolicos. Inside the chapel we see a coffered ceiling until the middle of this century remained hidden, and on the left side, we can see some fragments of frescoes, which have been hidden until recently, when the reform of the chapel was undertaken.
