4 reviews of Chapel of Our Ms of Guia

Notable

The Chapel of Our Lady of Guia (Capela de Nossa Senhora da Guia) is one of the oldest in Portugal, from 1059 (although it's believed to have already existed in the 10th century). It's classified as Property of Public Interest. Located on an atoll, at the mouth of river Ave in the Atlantic Ocean, it's offers excellent views of the sea and the beach at your feet. Unfortunately, we couldn't go inside because we arrived after hours. According to the website, the most notable are its ceilings that are painted with biblical scenes, and the tiles that line its interior walls are from the 18th century.

If you want to visit the interior, here are the hours: Monday to Friday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
