Allanwater Pub and Brewery

1 review of Allanwater Pub and Brewery

Smallest bar in Scotland

Allanwater Pub and Brewery is possibly the most pleasant place in Bridge of Allan. In fact, I'd go as far as to say it has more personality than any other place in central Scotland and, oddly enough, it's basically hidden!

It's located a few steps from Henderson Street just after the Queen's Hotel. Interestingly, the history of this bar, which is the smallest in Scotland, is run by master brewer Ross Douglas, the same man who once owned the hotel. He sold it at an opportune moment and decided to dedicate his time to his true passion: the bar.

If you enter through the back door, you'll notice that it's actually an old house with wooden beams and all. If you see smoke, that probably means that Douglas is making a new batch of beer. They serve a solid selection of craft beers so, if you have a craving for a pint of hand-crafted chocolate stout, this is the place. Some of the beers are homemade, but they also sell a variety of craft beers from breweries around Scotland.

The bar also has live music several days a week, beer tastings, and a really great crew who are up for a chat or to explain a bit more about the beer and the bar's history. The place itself is basically a museum, but it's still a lovely place to relax with a pint, learn more about local beer, and, most importantly, just have a simple good time. I couldn't recommend it more.
