Over 100,000 books
The Instituto Cervantes in Tangier is located in the new part of the city near the Place de France and Boulevard Pasteur. It teaches Spanish and Spanish culture and helps students prepare for Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) exams. They also offer courses in Catalan, Basque or Galician and organize cultural activities, conferences, exhibitions and concerts to promote Spanish culture. The library of the Instituto Cervantes is the oldest Spanish library outside of Spain and also the most well-endowed: it's collection included over 100,000 books in Castilian, Galician, Catalan, Basque, French and Arabic, many dating back to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, some 4,000 volumes of plays, musical scores and old Spanish teaching materials.
