Gates to the underworld

According to the Mayans, The Cenotes were the gates to the underworld. They threw away the bodies of their loved ones there because in their religious life was a cycle that began in the underworld and ended with the death in the earth. Today you can immerse yourself in these cenotes of great natural beauty and history. The cenote of two eyes is certainly the most impressive, it has two entry points that are connected underground. It's also an ideal place because it's lost in the middle of the wild and there's a Mayan village nearby. This photo was taken at its widest opening, the water is clear.

It is equipped with ladders for easy access.

Amazing experience!

Esperienza straordinaria!

Excellent
In our recent vacation in Mexico, we thought about going to see at least a cenote, as the area of Yucatan and Quintana Roo is full. The choice fell in Dos Ojos (two eyes) as our guide gave it as one of the best. Once you arrive on site thought to snorkel in the first cave, but the information office made us change your mind letting us see pictures and telling us what we could see. With about 20 Euros each we would be given the necessary equipment, mask, snorkel, fins (which we had already), wetsuit, life jacket, battery and important guidance that would accompany us for about an hour. At first they took us to snorkel in the first smaller cave, is already here, the impact was very positive the water was a deep blue, crystal clear and fresh .... there are also fish and stalactites that frame, in the middle of the jungle, a truly unique environment! In order to preserve this environment so unique is forbidden to dive wearing sunscreen or insect repellent. After a while 'we moved into the cenote bigger, more beautiful than the first, I would say FANTASTIC ... from here we went to a guided tour of the various caves, in some ways could be seen only with the help of the battery other points however, were partially illuminated, led us in a completely dark cave where thousands of bats slept lazily attached to stalactites. The setting is surreal, snorkel among stalactites and stalagmites is very special and unique. I never felt unsafe even for my 11 year old children were amazed and excited about what they saw .... The only negative, is the thousands of mosquitoes that live in this place, in fact we are just out of the water literally ran away and we could not take pictures outside although I would have loved it!

Mythical cenote

Cenote mythique

Epoustouflant !
Located in the municipality of Xel-Ha, and in the popular seaside resort of Playa del Carmen, Cenote Dos Ojos ("Two Eyes") was one of our favorites during our visits and diving in the area. The site takes its name from its dual (two eyes), with two very different sites without internal communication. The diving is very nice (although the water is not that "in" about 24 degrees), and it has, from the depths of really great views of the entrance, with the roots of trees come to draw water in the cave, or in the inner cave bat ... Breathtaking!
