Cementerio Hundido

Una de las cosas más curiosas que vimos en la isla volcánica de Camiguin fue su Cementerio Hundido (Sunken Cemetery en inglés), una cruz de grandes dimensiones situada en el mar y que es visible desde muy lejos. El lugar se encuentra en el lado oeste de la isla a unos 14 kilómetros de Mambajao, el principal núcleo urbano. La cruz, que puede ser visitada en una embarcación local, fue construida en 1982 para conmemorar el hundimiento del cementerio que había en la aldea de Bonbon por causa de las erupciones volcánicas que tuvieron lugar entre 1871 y 1875. El antiguo cementerio quedó sepultado debajo del nivel del mar y la cruz está situada justo encima. Nosotros llegamos al Cementerio Hundido en una moto que usamos para recorrer toda la isla aunque también es posible llegar en transporte local.
