Celebrations of Guadalupe Virgin
Those traveling to Bolivia during the first half of September should not miss the opportunity to attend the Festival of the Virgin of Guadalupe, held on around the 8th to 10th of this month in the city of Sucre (of which the Virgin is the patron). The Feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe lasts a minimum of two days, during which the city streets are filled with music and joy. Among the many activities included in the program are a massive Mass in Sucre's main square, the procession of the Virgin, and above all, a majestic parade which thousands of people of all ages participate in. I attended the parade spellbound for two days straight, I can assure you it is a sight to be seen: it is a really awesome performance of music, costumes and traditional dress and above all, the long hours that these people are dancing non-stop, in what apparently is a sacrifice made in honor of the Virgin.
