New Cathedral Square
Bragança is divided into 3 zones, built at different times: - The Citadel (or upper zone) constitutes the foundation of the city, it's surrounded by walls and inside is the Castle, the Church of St. Mary and the ancient Domus Municipalis. - The lower area, built on the banks of the river Fervença, is XV century as a result of the expansion of the Citadel. - In recent decades, the city has continued to expand to the west and south (the latter is the industrial area). The most significant aspect of this expansion is the new Cathedral Square, which opened in 2000. For my taste it's a horror as it's a large expanse of concrete with a staircase that culminates in the New Cathedral.
