Metropolitan Cathedral

I have never seen a building like this in the very centre of a city! It has several towers, in addition to some carvings on the exterior walls. It was designed by the architect Joao Batista Giovenale. The main dome is about 65 metres high and 18 metres in diameter ... it's hard to imagine how large it is without seeing it in person! There are lots of trees in front of the church, which is set in a pleasant, quiet square. I recommend taking an afternoon to visit the cathedral and the nearby monuments, like Porto Alegre Piratini Palace, the Marechal Deodoro, Teatro San Pietro and Farroupilha Palace ...
