Castle of Comper

On one of our walks, we found this castle a few miles from the village of Concoret. By all accounts this castle belonged to the king of Brittany Solomon Britain in the ninth century. However it was the barons of Gaël-Montfort who really gave importance to this small fortress considered one of the best strategic positions, having witnessed many battles. Today it is the headquarters of the imaginary legend of King Arthur, Merlin and Lancelot with some of the scenes of the famous book. Several rooms have figures and tables from this unreality but pleasantly surprised visitors. Everything is in English

Or French, stories, books or sketches.

I found this castle by the poster of one of their shows. The design between Art Nouveau and fantasy that I liked, I went closer to see what it was. From the opening at 10am at the gates of the castle, I discovered entering a beautiful landscape of a lake or pond on the banks of which the castle is actually built. The rainy weather also gave a special atmosphere which accommodated well with the place that actually houses the Centre for Arthurian. In terms of exposure, I found it very interesting although at times a bit "kitsch." A permanent exhibition traces the Arthurian legends, the origins of various characters, myths and developments in history and really puts in relation the part of legend and reality from these wonderful characters: Merlin, Viviane, Arthur etc. .. Scenes are formed with models dressed in period clothing to illustrate a particular episode. Small detail: There's lots of bats! After one of them is me stolen under the nose I have seen several hanging on the ceiling.

The Lady of the Lake

Viviana daughter of King Dionas was consecrated to the forest of Broceliande since childhood. Merlin knew her close to the source of Barenton and made it one of his students and fell in love. Merlin Comper built for his beloved a crystal palace. To hide from the gaze of the human fabulous palace takes the form of a lake. But Viviana allows only a few to see him only for a moment. The legend continues with the story of Lancelot and Viviana divverrà then that one of the knights of the round table and ends with Merlin that you enclose the woman he loved in Broceliande. Fascinated by these stories visit the castle that looks more like a Norman house, and the building we see the lake and next to this a Lady. Some people say that for a moment he saw the crystal castle of the Lady of the Lake ;) If you have the chance to meet the lady and the musician you have the perfect day. Points of Broceliande is an amazing place especially for those who have children and loves stories of knights and ladies.

The castle, located in the heart of the Forest Dark Forest, home to the Centre for Arthurian which has very good permanent and temporary exhibits relating to the legends of the Round Table and Merlin, as well as many activities for all ages. For the record, Lake Comper along which it is located is in fact Lake Viviane ... Lovers of medieval legends, you'll love it.
