Juan Quintana
A real gem
Possibly one of the largest and best-preserved castles in the north of England, inhabited by its owners, the Dukes of Northumberland. It is a real gem to be found in the town of Alnwick. The funny thing is that it is a house of great antiquity and its construction dates from 1098, indicating that it was established by Norman barons after the Battle of Hastings (1066) that ended the Anglo-Saxon dominance on the island. It stands on the banks of the River Aln and was one of the strongest points of defense against Scottish troops. For example, the Scottish King David I conquered it in the twelfth century.
