Good day trip for nature lovers
There's a group of waterfalls not far from the town of Matagalpa that are ideal for a refreshing swim or a nice outdoor picnic. The surrounding mountains are actually home to lots of waterfalls which you can reach either by car or by catching a bus in the city. The three main waterfalls are El Salto de Santa Emilia, El Salto del Escondido, and La Flor. In winter, they're full of water and the sight is pretty incredible.
The main waterfall is El Salto de Santa Emilia (it's named after a nearby town) and costs about $2.00 to visit. Salto del Escondido is located a little further away and costs $1.00 to visit.
La Flor is on the same path as Salto del Escondido but it's a completely wild waterfall so it's free to visit. It's located about one kilometer down the trail so it's a great spot if you like hiking. So whether you're a hiker or just a nature lovers, these waterfalls don't disappoint.
