Snails, 70s-style
Casa Amadeo, more commonly known as "that snails place in the Rastro", is a La Latina classic. They specialize first of all in snails, served sizzling in a pungent broth of chorizo grease, ham, and God-knows what other deliciousness. If you're a snail novice, grab a toothpick and pluck the shrimp-sized gastropod from its shell, pop it in your mouth, and suck the remaining sauce out of the shell. It's heavenly. It's recommend trying at least a 1/2 plate of snails, even if the idea of eating them seems kind of gross (they are, of course, delicious, and taste/texture somewhat similar to mushrooms).
