A charming city to visit
Carry le Rouet is a cute little town on the Mediterranean coast of France. Normally, foreign tourists don't realize that France has nice beaches near big cities. So, in general, they stay as far away as possible from Marseille, thinking that it wouldn't be worth it to be close to one of the biggest ports in the Mediterranean.
But Carry, which is half an hour's drive from Marseille, is the perfect place to get away from the city and go eat grilled fish on a Sunday afternoon in the small picturesque fishing harbor, which makes the town have its reputation. The beaches are beautiful, very natural, no big hotels have been built there. Instead, there are small houses, harmoniously integrated into the natural environment.
Most of the area surrounding the city is a large pine forest, which is a protected nature reserve. Apparently, nomads lived in Carry 20,000 years ago! They stayed in caves by the sea, and survived by fishing. In 1584, the city was officially recognized as Carry. It now has just over 6000 inhabitants, and much many more in the summer, with campsites and hotels. You can reach the town by train from Marseille if you have no individual form of transport.
