Carnival of Isla Cristina

El Carnaval de Isla Cristina está declarado Fiesta de Interés Turístico de Andalucía. Es una fiesta multitudinaria con una masiva participación ciudadana y un gran arraigo popular que viene celebrándose ya desde el siglo XVIII, por lo que es uno de los más antiguos de Andalucía. La fiesta carnavalera dura nada menos que dos semanas, ya que comienza la semana anterior al miércoles de ceniza. La primera semana se dedica al [b]Teatro[/b], en el que tiene lugar un concurso de comparsas, murgas y cuartetos, en el [poi=710241]Teatro Horacio Noguera[/poi] (que sustituye al antiguo Teatro Gran Vía, todo un símbolo del carnaval de Isla Cristina). El domingo, tras la entrega de premios de este festival, tiene lugar la [b]Cabalgata[/b], en la que se dan cita todos los habitantes de la localidad y sus alrededores, tanto agrupaciones organizadas como personas "independientes" que se les unen para desfilar por las calles más céntricas de la ciudad. Continuando con esta masiva participación, comienza la denominada [b]Semana de Calle[/b], en la que la fiesta sigue de forma espontánea. El día más importante es el [b]Miércoles de Ceniza[/b], con una nueva cabalgata "de viudas" para el tradicional entierro de la sardina, que finaliza con un espectáculo pirotécnico y un baile. La fiesta termina el [b]Domingo de Piñata[/b], más bien dedicado a los niños. Desde luego la fiesta que se monta es alucinante, y el pitorreo y la diversión están garantizados. Y si no puedes ir en febrero, no te preocupes porque vuelve a repetirse el Carnaval en Verano. Tampoco dejes de pasarte por el museo de carnaval, ubicado en la Casa Patio San Francisco (mismo edificio de la oficina de turismo).

The Carnival of Isla Cristina is declared Festival of Tourist Interest in Andalusia. It"s a massive party with a massive citizen participation and a great popular support which has already been celebrated since the eighteenth century, so it is one of the oldest in Andalusia. The carnival festival lasts no less than two weeks since the previous week Ash Wednesday begins.
