15 reviews of Caozo Falls

Chestnut, olive, and cherry groves

Excellent

This past autumn, we decided to visit Caozo Falls in the Valle del Jerte. The route is short and perfect for doing with kids; it starts in Valdastillas which you can reach by car. At the beginning, the trail takes you through cherry, olive, and chestnut groves, a beautiful sight especially in autumn when their colors are on full display. Oh, and the waterfalls are just amazing. Even if it hasn't rained recently and the stream isn't full (as was our case), it’ still just as spectacular. During the return trip, you go through a large chestnut forest where you can see lots of birds and collect the tasty nuts on the ground.

Waterfalls and cherry orchards

Caozo Falls is near the highway so there are usually a lot of people. I went in springtime during the Cherry Blossom Festival. It’s an amazing sensation to walk among the cherry trees and find small creeks and massive waterfalls. It’s truly an idyllic place.

Nature in its purest state

The Caozo Falls – Garganta Bohonal area is mighty and impressive after an intense rain. You can find this wonder of nature in the area near the village of Piornal and Valdastillas (Jerte Valley).

You can’t miss it!

Spectacular waterfalls

The size of the falls depends largely on the amount of spring rain. If it’s a dry year, the falls shrink by the end of May. If the spring way rainy, the falls last up until late July or early August. Also, if you visit after a few days of heavy rains the falls are spectacular. Even the sound of the water crashing against the rocks is impressive. I mention this because I’d hate for anyone to go in late summer or during a dry spell expecting to see some roaring falls and find it dry.

For me, the best time to do the route is in mid-to-late November when the leaves on the cherry, oak, and chestnut trees are falling.

Gorgeous

This is a small paradise of water, green, and quiet, and after a heavy rain it’s quite slippery but the perfect setting for taking photos. To get there, you have to cross Valdastillas and continue along the highway until you reach a crossing where you’ll see a sign for Caozo Falls. You can get there by car and there’s a parking lot. It’s a must if you’re in the Jerte Valley.

Peace and quiet in the Jerte Valley

In the Jerte Valley, you can find endless cascades of crystal-clear water and many amazing places unknown to the general public. And, if you visit in March, you’ll see thousands of blossoming cherry trees.
