Esmeraldas is known as the "green province" of Ecuador for its primary forests, but is now being exploited with indiscriminate logging. Dozens of natives living in the forests have made their livelihood from the trees they cut down to sell to the timber company. Because of the lack of roads, the rivers are used to transport the lumber during the work week. On Friday and Saturday, it's common to see "boats", like the one in the photo, that includes a pig as a passenger. This is a typical print of the Esmeraldeños Rivers.
